Texas Tech Receiver Derrick Willies Jumped Onto a 60-Inch Box While Wearing a 10-Pound Weight Vest, Is Probably College Football’s Newest Freak
Who is Derrick Willies?
He’s a 6-foot-3, 225-pound wide receiver who recently transferred from junior college to Texas Tech.
Why should you care about him?
Because he’s one of the biggest athletic freaks in college football.
Willies recently tweeted out a video of himself performing a 60-inch Seated Box Jump while wearing a 10-pound weighted vest.

Willies tagged Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes II in the tweet, asking him, “can I get a jump ball?” If his freakish leaping abilities carry over to the football field, then yes, Willies will probably get lots of jump balls.
Last season, Willies tallied 1,115 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns for Trinity Valley Community College. Brad Smiley, his head coach, told 247sports.com that Willies is “a red zone monster.” The Illinois native was also an incredible track & field athlete in high school, winning state titles in the 300-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles.
Texas Tech runs a potent version of the air raid offense. Last season, they ranked second in the FBS with 388.2 passing yards per game. Putting a suberb athlete like Willies inside Tech’s system could make for some massive numbers.
