On Monday night, The Simpsons used Harbaugh as the answer to a joke about a “sports genius that everyone hates,” a clear sign that Harbaugh has become embedded in American sports culture in a way that few others have. He was absolutely thrilled that his name was mentioned in one of the most iconic television shows of all time; and it led him down a strange path, which ended with Harbaugh stating that he models his life after SpongeBob SquarePants.

After announcing on his weekly radio show that both The Simpsons and SpongeBob SquarePants were two of his favorite cartoons, Harbaugh gushed over the influence that the sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea has had on his life. Really.
“I love his attitude,” Harbaugh said. “He attacks each day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind! I’ve kind of modeled my behavior after him. We all should. What a great employee he is. He’s a go-getter. He’s always got a bounce to his step. He’s got pizzazz. He puts his heart and soul into making those crabby patties. I think he’s awesome.”
Harbaugh is simply a big child in a pair of khakis. But it seems to be working for Michigan football. If the Wolverines win the whole thing, there had better be free Crabby Patties for everyone.
