Introducing Ektio Basketball Shoes and Patented Ankle Support Technology
New to the performance sneaker market is a line of basketball shoes specifically designed to prevent ankle injuries. The brand, called Ektio, was founded by Dr. Barry Katz, an orthopedic radiologist whose mission is to eliminate ankle sprains for basketball players by incorporating ankle-saving technology into the design of the shoe.
“We have set out to eliminate ankle sprains from society,” Katz says. “They are preventable, and no one has ever thought of them as preventable before.”
The key to Ektio’s technology? Not allowing the shoe to roll. This is achieved through two design components: a set of soft rubber bumpers placed on the outside of the shoe, and an inner strap that wraps around the ankle.
In the video above, Dr. Katz and legendary NY Knick and Ektio brand representative John Starks detail Ektio’s unique technology.
Available now on eastbay.com are two models—the Ektio Post Up and the Ektio Wrapter. Both retail for $200 and come in various colorways. Check out the videos below for an in-depth look at each model.
