Jackie Chan Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Bleeding Steel’ Is in Development
It was announced at the Shanghai Film Festival that Jackie Chan will star in the futuristic sci-fi thriller Bleeding Steel, from Village Roadshow Pictures Asia and Heyi Pictures. Principal photography on the big budget feature is scheduled to begin during July in Sydney, Australia. Some filming will also take place in Taiwan.
Chan is set to play the role of a hardened special forces agent who fights to protect a young woman from a ruthless crime gang. As you might expect, he becomes powerfully drawn to this damsel in distress. The connection between the two is so strong and unique, he feels like he knew her in another life.
Deadline quoted Ellen Eliasoph, President and CEO of Village Roadshow Pictures Asia, who said: “We are thrilled to be working with Heyi Pictures on Bleeding Steel. Given Village Roadshow’s deep roots in Australia, the film’s concept resonates strongly with us; and naturally we are thrilled to be a part of a Jackie Chan production.”
Writing and directing the movie are collaborators Lijia Zhang (Chrysanthemum to the Beast) and Leo Zhang.
Chan is as busy as ever. He has at least five more projects set for release through 2017, including a new Karate Kid; the action-comedy Skiptrace, with Johnny Knoxville; revenge thriller The Foreigner; war comedy Railroad Tigers; and the action-adventure comedy Kung-fu Yoga, in which Chan will play a Chinese archaeology professor in search of the Magadha treasure. There are also reports that the actor will return for Rush Hour 4.
Bleeding Steel is expected to hit theaters some time next year.
