‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’ Will Spawn 2 New Movies
Word is out that two new installments of the Journey to the Center of the Earth franchise are currently in the works. The first movie (2008) starred Brendan Fraser. In the sequel (2012), Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Dwayne Johnson plays a leading role as a Navy code breaker.
Johnson will be back for the third and fourth installments of the series, which will be written by brothers Chad and Carey Hayes. Best known for their recent horror flick, The Conjuring, the Hayes brothers are already working on two of Johnson’s upcoming movies: the earthquake thriller San Andreas, due out next year, and the supernatural action picture, SEAL 666.
The plots of the two forthcoming Journey movies have not yet been divulged. The series is based on Jules Verne’s classic adventure novel, Journey to the Center of the Earth, which has been adapted for both the big and small screen many times over the years, beginning with a 1959 feature film.
Beau Flynn of Flynn Picture Company, will return as producer.
