Rap News Rundown: Meek Mill, T.I., Rick Ross, Drake
Meek Mill’s Request for Early Request Denied
According to reports, Meek Mill’s attorney made two emergency hearing requests to the courts, hoping to getting the rapper released, but both requests were denied. Judge Genece Brinkley said her court schedule won’t permit her to hold a hearing on the rapper’s sentencing until September. She also denied a request to have a different judge take over the case. Meek’s attorney plans to file a writ of mandamus asking a higher court to order Brinkley to comply with the emergency hearing requests.
Floyd Mayweather Denies New Reports
The Floyd Mayweather, T.I and Tiny drama lives on. During a recent press conference, TMZ reported that in response to a fan’s question, the boxer confessed to having sex with the southern rapper’s wife. But over the weekend, Mayweather attempted to clear up the confusion via Instagram, writing, “I’ve never been with Tiny sexually. I respect her situation and I think she’s a good person. I would never disrespect a marriage.”
TMZ spoke with Tiny and she concurred. T.I. added, “I hope he is enjoying himself. God bless him.”
Rick Ross Says Wale/Meek Mill Beef Was a “Misunderstanding”
Rick Ross spoke out about the beef brewing between Meek Mill and Wale, which spilled onto Twitter last week. According to the MMG leader, the two have no issues with each other, and the entire fiasco was the result of a “misunderstanding.”
“As soon as the tweets went out, I spoke to both of them on the phone,” Ross told Bullett. “Those two guys, they’re brothers. At the end of the day, they’re brothers and it’s time to turn up right now. It’s time for all of us to turn up and stay turned up, you know what I mean? But it’s all love between those two and everybody knows that. That’s all you’re going to see. They’re two real dudes, two successful dudes, and we all came from the same place.”
Drake & Chris Brown Reunite At the ESPYS
After being pictured together in the studio, Drake and Chris Brown publicly ended their feud last week at the ESPYS. The two appeared alongside each other several times throughout the show, including a skit that included NBA player Blake Griffin. Check it out in the video below.
The Young Money rapper also performed with crooner Brian McKnight on the song “Side Pieces,” and remixed his “Worst Behavior” single to create “#SterlingNeverLovedUs,” which was based on the former L.A. Clippers owner’s interview with CNN‘s Anderson Cooper.
The award ceremony raised more than $1 million for The V Foundation, a non-profit organization launched by the late coach Jim Valvano to fund cancer research.
