Last week, Diddy topped the Forbes Cash Kings list for the first time, Drake’s press run contained a lot of Kendrick, Kanye feuded with Jimmy Kimmel, and Chris Brown lamented his harsh treatment from the world.
Diddy, Jay Z Top the Forbes 2013 Cash Kings List
Diddy and Jay Z are no strangers to Forbes Cash Kings list. But this is the first year in which the Bad Boy CEO has topped the list. He raked in $50 million, while fellow New Yorker Jay-Z, who came in second, brought in an estimated $43 million. West coast producer Dr. Dre earned $40 million, and the sole female on the list, Nicki Minaj, came in fourth with $29 million.
There were also a number of surprises. Newcomers Kendrick Lamar and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis tied for the 14th spot, both pulling in approximately $9 million. Independent acts Tech N9ne and Mac Miller each found a spot, earning $7.5 million and $6 million, respectively.
Drake Talks Kendrick Lamar—Again
During the press run for his latest album, Drake talked extensively about a verse in Kendrick Lamar’s “Control,” despite claiming to be unimpressed by it. The YMCMB rapper said he “kind of lost a little bit of respect for the sentiment of the verse,” because the Compton rapper didn’t go far enough.
Drake also revealed that he once considered releasing a record along the same lines but ultimately decided against it because he was afraid it would limit him in some ways. “It’s like it kinda puts you in a box a bit. I don’t know if I necessarily respect it,” said the rapper.
In other news, Birdman denied that Drake was targeting Lamar on his song, “The Language.”
Kanye Feuds With Jimmy Kimmel Over Interview Spoof
With the help of two unruly kid actors on his late night show, Jimmy Kimmel recently spoofed Kanye West’s interview with BBC Radio 1, during which the rapper declared himself the No. 1 rock star on the planet. Kanye wasn’t too pleased with the mockery and took to Twitter to vent.
“Jimmy Kimmel is out of line to try and spoof in any way the first piece of honest media in years,” said the rapper in an all-caps rant. He also made fun of the funnyman’s looks before adding, “Sarah Silverman is a thousand times funnier than you, and the whole world knows it.”
Kimmel reacted to the Twitter tirade on his show, telling the audience, “Finally, I’m in a rap feud. I always wanted to be in a rap feud. Right now we’re at DefKanye 5.”
Chris Brown Grows Frustrated with Continued Backlash
During a recent interview with Jet Magazine, Chris Brown talked about how public perception of him continues to be marred by his assault on Rihanna, which happened four years ago. Comparing his position, he pointed out that Jay Z did some questionable acts during his career but isn’t continually harassed about them. He also compared himself to Trayvon Martin.
“No disrespect, because I’m a fan, but nobody brings up the fact that [Jay Z] stabbed somebody and sold drugs. He gets a pass,” said Brown. “You have to go through the struggle before you can get to the good part. I don’t try to lash out at people, or be as mad or impulsive as I used to be. I got to the point where it’s only so much you can take from the master, you feel me? I’ve taken my fair share of lashings.”
