2 Chainz & Kendrick Lamar Strike Gold

2 Chainz’s Def Jam debut, Based on a T.R.U. Story, was certified gold earlier this week. The former DTP representer announced the news via his official Twitter account, thanking his family and team as well as the bloggers and DJs who supported him. The LP, released on Aug. 14, took the top spot on the Billboard 200 with 147,000 copies sold.
Doing the same in about half the time, Kendrick Lamar’s debut album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, also picked up a gold plaque this week. The West Coast newcomer didn’t get into the top Billboard 200, but he still pushed over 240,000 units in the first week. “Swimming Pools” is still doing well on the charts, and the next single will be “Poetic Justice,” featuring Drake.

Wayne Erases IRS Debt

Wayne’s IRS debt has climbed with his popularity. The former Hot Boy’s government bill for 2008 was more than $3 million, adding another $2 million in 2009, with the total coming in at $7.72 million. But the Young Money MC has used a stellar year in touring, album profits and new endorsements to pay off the tab.

T.I. Talks Diss Track “Addresses”

During an interview with DJ Drama on Shade 45, T.I. opened up about the song “Addresses” (featured on his latest album), confirming that he was taking shots at a particular person on the track, though he won’t name the individual. Defending his decision to not name names, Tip said he doesn’t want to give his target any promotion. Of course, this also leaves room for misinterpretation, and some are bound to assume incorrectly that the song is about them. The Internet has narrowed it down to Alley Boy, fellow DuckTape Ent member Trouble, and perhaps Gucci Mane.
