It was only a matter of time before Brandin Cooks exploded onto the scene.
The dynamic big-play threat did it on the ground and through the air in Week 8, scoring a pair of touchdowns in the New Orleans Saints’ 44-23 win over the Green Bay Packers.
His first touch of the game came on a Jet Sweep End Around play, which Cooks broke off for a 4-yard score early in the first quarter. His second touchdown came midway through the third quarter and proved to be the game-winner for the Saints.
Cooks torched the Packers secondary on a Deep Post Route from the 50-yard line. He hauled in the catch inside the 5-yard line and shook off a Green Bay safety to break the plane of the goal line.
Cooks’ unmatched speed helped set up the play, but his remarkable upper-body and core strength made the score possible.
For his pre-draft training, the 5-foot-10, 190-pound Cooks performed lifts such as the Dumbbell Curl to Press. It builds complete upper-body strength, enabling Cooks to outmuscle the bigger defensive backs he faces at the next level.
When we visited with him during his pre-combine training, the Biletnikoff Award winner from Oregon State proclaimed himself the best receiver in the 2014 NFL Draft.
“Now it’s all about going to prove it. Come stop me,” Cooks said.
The Packers certainly couldn’t stop Cooks. For that performance, he is this week’s STACK NFL Beast of the Week.
