Under Two Flags, a new clothing label introduced in 2010, fuses rugged American work wear with classic English tailoring—hence the Two Flags.” The line’s overall look works equally well for a day in the classroom or a night on the town with teammates. Below, peep the label’s 2012 Spring/Summer collection preview video.
Many of Under Two Flags’ button-down shirts combine detailed tailoring with cowboy-inspired cut and stitch panels across the shoulders—an old tailor trick to keep shirts tough and allow movement by brawny men. The colors are subtle and sturdy in distressed blue denim and khaki.
T-shirts, jackets and shirts are casual and unpretentious, lending themselves well to a layered look. A denim shirt can double as a jacket over a button-down or a T-shirt, making it an ideal staple for any traveling athlete.
Although Under Two Flags specializes in traditional American clothes with a twist, it also manages to throw in some surprises. The preview, for example, includes a button-down shirt reminiscent of an 18th Century riding shirt, with rounded corners and front paneling. The jeans also reflect a unique touch: a 19th Century railroad spike was used to give them a stonewashed look.
