USA Network Orders Pilot for ‘Brooklyn Animal Control’
The USA Network has ordered a pilot for a TV series adaptation of the IDW Publishing comic book, Brooklyn Animal Control, created in 2013 by J. T. Petty and artist Stephen Thompson. The storyline for this supernatural crime drama revolves around a secret subdivision of the NYPD that performs social services for local werewolves. The show will focus on the lives of case officers and the werewolf community Kveld-Ulf, hidden deep within the borough.
Although this is a fantasy series, it will explore relatable and controversial issues.
Petty will write and executive produce the series. The fact that he is taking such a powerful position is surprising since comic book creators are not usually so prominently involved with adaptations of their work. Executive producing with Petty is the experienced comic-to-film producer David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight, Blade, Constantine), along with Rick Jacobs (Spare Parts) and David Alpert (The Walking Dead).
In addition to the Brooklyn Animal Control comic, Petty is also known for the Splinter Cell video game franchise.
The Hollywood Reporter quoted Jackie de Crinis, USA Network’s executive VP of original programming: “Fans of the comic book know that Brooklyn Animal Control is a thriller anchored inside the world of New York organized crime families. At its core, it is a family drama, albeit an unconventional one.”
