On June 25, Wale is set to release his highly anticipated third studio album, The Gifted. Over the last few years, Wale has transitioned from a rapper popular only in the Washington D.C. area to a household name. This summer, Wale and the rest of the Maybach Music Group entourage are looking to control the radio waves.
No guest appearances have been announced yet for The Gifted. But since Wale's a member of MMG, fans can expect at least a few songs featuring Rick Ross, French Montana and Meek Millz. Wale's Dec. 25 mixtape Folarin may have given us a taste of what to expect, with songs featuring French Montana, Trinidad James, 2 Chainz and Rick Ross among others.
The album's first single, "Bad," which features Tiara Thomas, tells the story of a woman incapable of emotionally connecting in a relationship. Wale has stated that the single's edgy mood is reflective of the theme of the rest of the album. The video currently has more than 11 million views on YouTube.
The Maybach Music Group rapper has also announced that he will release his fourth studio album only a few months after the release of The Gifted. It will be interesting to see how well two albums from the same artist will sell with such close release dates.
After the release of his fourth album, Wale plans to begin work on a Go-Go inspired album. He has previously stated that he will rap on less than half of the album, allowing the instrumentals to speak for themselves. This summer will determine whether Wale's album can meet the success of "Bad" or just fall trap to the single's name.
