Studio Confirms Wonder Woman Film Is Coming
After decades of demand, Warner Bros. is finally coming through with a solo film about Wonder Woman. The news isn’t entirely surprising; the studio is moving forward with their Justice League adaptations, and Gal Gadot is set to portray Diana Prince in the forthcoming Batman v. Superman film.
Warner Bros. Entertainment CEO Kevin Tsujihara confirmed the news during the company’s recent shareholders meeting while highlighting the current demand for “high-quality video content.” And late last year, Batman v. Superman director Zack Snyder called the character “one of the most powerful female characters of all time.”
Fan reaction to Gadot, known for her work in the Fast & Furious franchise, has been mixed, but Snyder is confident that the actress’s take on Wonder Woman will be well received. “Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role,” he said. “We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”
Earlier this year, during an interview with Israel’s Good Evening with Gai Pines, Gadot reacted to the criticism, revealing a little about her version of the character. “I represent the Wonder Woman of the new world,” she stated. And she’s already started training for the extremely physical role. “[It’s] a very serious training regimen—Kung Fu, kickboxing, swords, jujutsu, Brazilian—1,001 things—I’ll gain body mass,” she said.
The standalone Wonder Woman film is set to premiere in 2017. We’ll get our first look at the female superhero during Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, on March 25, 2016.
