Jack Tatum: 1948-2010

Jack Tatum, the hardest of the hard-hitting NFL defensive greats, died Tuesday, July 26. He was 61 years of age.

The former Oakland Raiders safety was one of the most feared players in the history of the league. "I like to have receivers thinking about me when they try and catch the ball," Tatum said.

The secret behind Tatum's bone-crushing hits? It was his ability to explode through the point of contact or, in other words, drive through a ballcarrier, as his former teammates put it.
