In 2014, after being selected No. 22 overall by the Cleveland Browns, Johnny Manziel famously partied into the wee hours of the night, a foreshadowing of sorts for the tumultuous career to follow. After Baker Mayfield, a guy constantly compared to Manziel throughout the entire 2018 NFL Draft process, was taken No. 1 overall by the Browns on Thursday, he flew to Los Angeles to continue training.
Fair or unfair, Mayfield is going to have to work to shed the Manziel comparisons that will follow him until he proves them wrong. Getting back to Proactive, where Mayfield spent most of his time training for the NFL Combine and beyond, is a big step forward in distancing himself from the former Texas A&M flameout.
Rookie minicamp begins on Thursday for the Browns.
