Another X-Men Sequel Announced
Good news, STACKletes. Another X-Men movie has been announced, and it should start shooting later this year. It will be a sequel to X-Men: First Class, and rumor marks it as a dark prequel to the rest of the series. Matthew Vaughn, who directed First Class, has signed on again, as have most cast members, including James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence (who stars in the upcoming Hunger Games).
First Class was set in 1962, around time of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The U.S. government enlisted the help of mutants with superhuman powers to prevent World War III. We’re curious to see where in history this next sequel will land. But regardless of the time period or plot, expect the same level of entertainment that the other X-Men movies have provided.
Although the team seems set, don’t make plans quite yet. Filming and release dates have not been revealed. But there’s plenty of material to keep you busy while you wait. Other spin-offs of the X-Men film series include X-Men Origins: Wolverine, with Hugh Jackman, and X-Men: The Last Stand. In total, five X-Men movies have come out so far—and all are action-packed and ideal for team movie nights.
Check back for an update when production of the latest X-Men sequel begins.
