Anthony Hopkins and Harrison Ford Team Up for ‘Official Secrets’
The cast for the big screen espionage thriller Official Secrets is impressive, with legendary actors Anthony Hopkins and Harrison Ford boarding the project. Also joining the film are Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones) and Paul Bettany (Avengers franchise).
Sara and Gregory Bernstein wrote the screenplay, which is based on the book The Spy Who Tried To Stop A War: Katherine Gun and The Secret Plot to Sanction the Iraq Invasion, by Marcia Mitchell and Thomas Mitchell.
Set in 2003, in the months prior to the Iraq War, the story follows a British intelligence officer (Dormer) and a British newspaper journalist (Bettany), centering on a revelation by Dormer’s character involving an NSA spy operation against the UN Security Council, a secret and illegal maneuver designed to ensure the passage of a war resolution. When she is arrested, the leak makes headlines but the scandal is far from over. While searching for evidence to try to free her, the reporter uncovers a shocking plot that puts both their lives in danger.
Hopkins portrays a retired U.K. general and Ford takes on the role of a CIA agent. The drama also stars Martin Freeman (The Hobbit franchise) as Peter Edwards, the foreign affairs editor for the newspaper.
Directing the movie is rising filmmaker Justin Chadwick, best known for The Other Boleyn Girl.
Anthony Hopkins will next be seen on the big screen in another thriller, Collide, co-starring Felicity Jones, premiering April 1. Official Secrets is expected to hit theaters sometime later this year.
