When you fuel up with energy drinks that are loaded with supplements, additives and caffeine, you may get a jolt of energy, but you’re not getting carbohydrates to fuel your muscles. “Carbohydrates are the body’s primary source of fuel for muscle contraction,” says Kim Stein, senior principal scientist at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute.
