Blake Griffin Learns Running Mechanics From Olympic Sprinter Carmelita Jeter
As part of a series with Red Bull called “The Crossover,” in which L.A. Clippers star Blake Griffin explores various types of cross training across multiple sports, Griffin recently trained with 100-meter dash world champion Carmelita Jeter.
“I want a long and healthy career. I want to be quicker, stronger, and I want to be a leader,” Griffin said. “I know that if I am going to take myself to where I want to go as an athlete and a person, I have to look at all my training options. The usual practice just isn’t enough. I want more of an edge over my opponents. Cross training is so important because I can improve myself and have a lower impact on my body.”
“Blake’s a powerful . . . big guy,” said Jeter. “So what we wanted to work on today was power steps and getting that first step to be powerful for the second step. That’s where you get your momentum from.”
Also in his “Crossover” experience, Griffin worked on endurance and footwork by playing Handball and tested his MMA skills with Donald “The Cowboy” Cerrone.
