Noomi Rapace will star opposite Will Smith in the big screen sci-fi drama, Brilliance. Rapace first gained fame as gritty hacker Lisbeth Salander in the original Swedish film adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Since then, she has burnished her reputation with films like Dead Man Down and Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.
This upcoming film is based on Brilliance, the first book in Marcus Sakey’s three-part Brilliance Saga. The action takes place in a world populated by a growing number of brilliants, humans who have extraordinary cognitive abilities. People start panicking about them, and society becomes divided. Smith’s character, Nick Cooper, is a brilliant federal agent whose mission is to track down terrorists intent on starting a civil war. Rapace plays a tattooed brilliant labeled a terrorist by the government.
Filmmaker Julius Onah (The Girl is In Trouble) is set to direct this thriller. David Koepp, known for writing iconic action films such as Jurassic Park, Mission Impossible and Spider-Man, penned the screenplay.
Smith, who was seen earlier this year in A Winter’s Tale, has several other projects lined up, including Hancock 2 and possibly Bad Boys 3.
Brilliance is expected to start filming this summer, which is also when the second book in Sakey’s trilogy will release.
