Gaming Update: ‘Call of Duty,’ ‘Metal Gear Rising’ and ‘Metal Gear Solid V’
Before E3 kicked off, a few developers held events to whet fans’ appetite for the future. Find out what’s on the horizon for CoD: Ghosts and the Metal Gear franchise below.
Call of Duty: Ghosts Pre-E3 Event Reveals Two Levels
Activision conducted a 30-minute “All Access” live stream on the Sunday before E3 to give fans a preview of the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Ghosts. The segment, which was hosted by Geogg Keighley and YouTube sensation Justine Ezarik, revealed the inspiration behind Riley, the much-discussed canine companion. It also unveiled “Into the Deep” and “No Man’s Land,” two single-player levels.
The dog, which responds to spoken commands, was named after Simon “Ghost” Riley from Modern Warfare 2. He comes with a camera, earpiece and two vibrating devices—all of which will come in handy in “No Man’s Land” forest-like terrain. Meanwhile, “Into the Deep” will give players an underwater adventure.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Coming to PC “Soon”
Konami has announced plans to bring Revengeance to the PC as a digital download—”soon.” The move will mark the series’ first return to the PC in a decade. Granted, “soon” is not a precise date, but it’s better than nothing, right? The game will reportedly run at 60 frames per second “on most modern PCs,” so consider this an opportunity to get your equipment up to snuff if you don’t fall into that group. Thus far, it’s unclear if the title will come with the “Jetstream” and “Blade Wolf” DLCs or if it’ll even get new downloadable content past the initial release.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance launched for Xbox 360 and PS3 back in February.
Metal Gear Solid V: Kiefer Sutherland Is Snake
Elsewhere in the Metal Gear franchise, Snake will be sounding different in the upcoming MGS5: the Phantom Pain. Recent reports reveal that actor Kiefer Sutherland will be tackling the role of the much-loved hero. He will voice actor David Hayter, who has provided the voice of the Big Boss since the title’s launch in 1998.
The Phantom Pain takes place in 1985, nine years after the events that will unfold in the upcoming Ground Zeroes, and will feature a 49-year-old Snake. “We’re taking on some very heavy subjects such as race and revenge,” said series creator Hideo Kojima in a video about the game’s plot. “I wanted Snake to have a more subdued performance, expressed through subtle facial movements and tone of voice rather than words.” You can now watch an extended, mature version of the game’s trailer, first revealed at E3.
