Ceelo Apologizes for Rape Comments, Loses TV Show, Concerts
After a series of unfortunate tweets regarding rape, rapper Ceelo found himself on the defensive. He deleted the posts and apologized on Twitter, writing, “I truly and deeply apologize for the comments attributed to me on Twitter. Those comments were idiotic, untrue and not what I believe.”
The apology hasn’t stopped a number of companies from distancing themselves. TBS canceled Ceelo’s reality TV series, The Good Life, after only one season, and he has been removed from the Gretna Fest lineup and the U.S. Navy-sponsored Freedom Live show later this month. “Regardless of intent or context, the lack of sensitivity toward an issue that is one of the great challenges facing our Navy is unacceptable,” wrote Freedom Live in a Facebook post.
Chris Brown Reflects on Jail Time, Pleads Guilty to D.C. Assault
During a recent interview with Billboard, Chris Brown looked back at his recent stint in jail and recounted what life was like inside. “[I had to feel] like this happened for a reason. There was a purpose. Maybe I was out of control too much,” said Brown. “Or I needed something to humble me to the point where I get it. At that point, I didn’t look at it as trying to get out of the situation but learn from it.”
In related news, Brown recently resolved his Washington, D.C., assault case. After pleading guilty to misdemeanor assault, he was sentenced to time served and ordered to pay $150 in court costs. If convicted, he could have faced up to 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Migos Rob Concert Promoters at Gunpoint
One quick way to ensure that your rap career takes a dive is to rob promoters who book you for concerts, which is reportedly what rap group Migos did. According to reports, the Atlanta-based crew was slated to perform in Evansville, Indiana last weekend, having reached an agreement with an entertainment company called 41 South. The rappers were to be paid $11,000 up front and $10,000 after the concert; but when they showed up at the concert venue, they took the remaining money and left. When company reps tried to detain them, the rappers allegedly pointed rifles at them.
Migos hasn’t yet released a statement regarding the incident, and no one has been arrested.
