Channing Tatum Set to Direct YA Flick ‘Peacock’
Channing Tatum will soon be working behind the camera. The popular leading man has signed on to co-direct and produce the big screen adaptation of the YA novel Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock, by Matthew Quick (The Silver Linings Playbook). Tatum is directing alongside Reid Carolin who wrote, produced and co-starred with Tatum in Magic Mike.
The dark storyline of the book delves into teen alienation, revolving around a troubled adolescent who is planning a murder-suicide with his best friend.
Dramatic YA films are hot properties at the moment, following teen tearjerkers If I Stay and The Fault In Our Stars, both of which were big hits at the box office. Whereas these movies and other lucrative young adult films have taken a decidedly somber tone with tragic elements, Peacock will likely be edgier and more complex than what moviegoers typically see from this genre.
There’s a good chance that Tatum will also star in the film. If he does opt to go before the camera, the character he will portray is that of a heroic school teacher who intervenes.
