Rap News Rundown: Chief Keef, Mack Maine, Drake, J. Cole
Last week Chief Keef’s landlord filed papers to oust the rapper, Mack Maine was linked to an assault, Drake responded to Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse, and J. Cole reportedly got in a dust-up with Diddy following the VMAs.
Chief Keef Sued for Unpaid Rent
Despite his recent emergence in the rap game, Chief Keef has refused to meet several financial obligations. Earlier this year, he was taken to court by one of his children’s mothers after neglecting to make child support payments. And last week, his landlord filed a lawsuit to get the controversial rapper and his uncle to fork over back rent.
According to reports, Keef hasn’t paid Georghe Simoniak-Sas more than $9,000 in rent for July and August, yet he continues to reside at his Illinois mansion, which is valued at more than $1 million. Simoniak-Sas is petitioning the court to evict the rapper from the residence.
Thus far, the GBE rapper has not responded to the lawsuit.
Mack Maine to be Charged With Assault
Mack Maine has been identified as the performer involved in the incident last week that left a female victim with a shattered jaw. New details reveal that the confrontation happened on Lil Wayne’s tour bus. Mack Maine, president of Young Money, allegedly invited the female fan onto the bus following the OKC tour stop. He reached down her shirt and groped her without permission, and she reacted by slapping his hand away. She then attempted to leave with her friend, but Mack allegedly blocked their exit and punched her friend in the face, breaking her jaw.
According to TMZ, the district attorney will file charges against the YMCMB exec in the near future. Mack has not responded to the allegations.
Drake Responds to Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” Verse
The fallout from Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse rumbles on. Rappers are still releasing diss records; some have even released two. But Young Money’s Drake has, until now, remained conspicuously silent on the matter. But during a recent interview with Billboard, the Canadian star revealed his thoughts on the verse, calling it “an ambitious thought.”
“I didn’t really have anything to say about it. It just sounded like an ambitious thought to me. That’s all it was,” said Drake. “I know good and well that Kendrick’s not murdering me in any platform. So when that day presents itself, I guess we can revisit the topic.”
Drake’s third studio effort, Nothing Was the Same, is slated to hit shelves Sept. 24.
Rumor: J. Cole & Diddy Fight During VMA After-Party
According to several reports, J. Cole and Diddy got into a confrontation at the latter’s VMA after-party at the Dream Hotel in New York City. An inebriated Cole allegedly said a few unkind words to Diddy’s girlfriend Cassie, and the Bad Boys CEO jumped to her defense. The incident escalated to shoving and ended with Cole being escorted out. Both have since denied that the fight even took place.
“People will believe anything,” wrote Cole on Twitter.
Diddy seemed to allude to an argument between the two but downplayed it. “I usually don’t address rumors, but I got too much respect for my bro [J. Cole]. We are friends. We just yell in public sometimes,” tweeted the music mogul.
