Ethan Hawke, Emma Watson Star in ‘Regression’
Ethan Hawke stars as Minnesota detective Bruce Kenner in the big screen thriller Regression, about John Gray, a man accused by his daughter Angela of committing a shocking crime he does not remember. During Kenner’s investigation of the case, Gray unexpectedly admits that he is guilty, despite the fact that he has no memory of committing the crime. Following the confession, psychologist Dr. Raines is called in to help Gray unlock his memory of what happened. While he relives the crime in therapy, the truth about a horrifying nationwide mystery is uncovered.
Starring as Angela is Emma Watson of the Harry Potter film franchise. In the role of John Gray is Swedish actor David Dencik (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). Dr. Raines is played by veteran actor David Thewlis, whose most recent work includes The Theory of Everything. Also starring are Dale Dickey (Iron Man 3), Devon Bostick (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) franchise) and Lothaire Bluteau (The Tudors).
The movie was written and directed by a filmmaker who has an impressive history with dark suspenseful flicks, Alejandro Amenábar, best known in the U.S. for horror thriller The Others. The film is being produced in part by Amenábar’s own company, Himenoptero.
Variety quoted FilmNation CEO Glen Basner, who said: “This suspenseful and thrilling story, coupled with what we know will be a truly atmospheric setting, is going to be unforgettable for years to come.”
In addition to this film, Hawke has five more movies that are expected to debut this year, including the western In a Valley of Violence, co-starring John Travolta.
Regression comes to theaters nationwide on Aug. 28.
