Gaming Update: ‘Far Cry 3,’ ‘Age of Empires II’ & ‘Lost Planet 3’
Age of Empires makes a return; an extension of Far Cry 3 is hinted at; and Lost Planet gets delayed until summer.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Coming Soon?
Initially thought to be nothing more than a downloadable, it appears that Blood Dragon will be a standalone game that will extend Far Cry 3. Specifics have not been confirmed, but the game’s lead writer, Jeffrey Yohalem, spoke with Joystiq recently and confirmed that a plan is in place to capitalize on the game’s recent spike in popularity.
“Yes, I’m working on something now that will be surprising, I think, when it’s announced,” said Yohalem. “But it definitely is a ‘strike while the iron’s hot’ thing, and we’ll see.”
Lending credence to the rumor is a listing posted by the Brazilian classification ratings group. The game will be a first-person shooter available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
In the meantime, Ubisoft has released a new patch for FC3 across all platforms. It adds a new Master difficulty, an option to reset the liberated outposts to run back through the challenge, a beta testing mode for those who upload new maps, and the ability to search through maps by author name. Check Game Rant for a breakdown of all the changes.
Age of Empires Returning
The Age of Empires series will return to the PC when it debuts Age of Empires II HD on Stream on April 9. Fans anxious to get their hands on the game can pre-order it and start playing on April 5. Originally created by Ensemble Studios, the game is a faithful adaptation by Hidden Path Entertainment, the company behind Counter Strike: Global Offensive. The goal of the strategy series, which consists of 18 missions, is to create a civilization that can defend itself against other countries.
Lost Planet 3 Delayed
Lost Planet 3 was initially slated to hit consoles during the first quarter. But Capcom recently announced plans to push the release back until summer. As of now, the game will hit Xbox, PS3 and PC on June 28. To pacify fans, the company released a new trailer. In the clip, main character Jim Peyton discovers that he and the others in the NEVEC team aren’t alone on planet EDN III.
