It’s been a tough couple years for Florida State football.

The Seminoles staggered to a 5-7 record last season, and 2019 hasn’t started much better. After losing to Boise State in week 1, FSU needed overtime to defeat lowly UL Monroe.

Mid-way through that contest, a photo of junior tight end Tre’ McKitty lined up facing the wrong direction went viral on Twitter:

Most people took it as another sign of ineptitude from the struggling Seminoles, but the full story was much more logical.

FSU was actually running a hurry-up offense, and the players needed to get set as quickly as possible to keep up the tempo. McKitty knew he was going to motion on the play anyways, and he found it quicker to line up facing backwards than flip around.

#FSU TE Tre McKitty said the play where he lined up backward was intentional. FSU was pushing the tempo and wanted to get lined up quickly.
