Garrett Weber-Gale Credits Good Nutrition for Olympic Gold
Think eating healthy isn’t important to your athletic career? Don’t tell that to Olympic gold medalist and Team USA hopeful Garrett Weber-Gale. The swimmer credits a low-sodium, low-sugar, plant-based diet for his athletic success; and he has launched a website to teach young athletes the how and why of proper nutrition.
After being diagnosed with hypertension in 2005, Weber-Gale began to pay attention to his eating. He ditched take-out in favor of his own cooking, even telling Sports Illustrated, “eating a really ripe nectarine or a great mango makes me really, really, like so very happy… There are great things the earth gives us instead of Oreos.”
Weber-Gale’s passion for healthy eating and cooking led him to create Athletic Foodie, a nutrition site he personally runs, featuring his thoughts on nutrition, recipes straight from his kitchen and cooking demonstration videos. The site has even opened up opportunities for Weber-Gale to host healthy living events.
If you’re looking for ways to eat healthy for peak performance, check out Athletic Foodie. You’ll get a comprehensive look at the day-to-day life of a professional athlete who’s living proof that proper nutrition can make all the difference.
