Today, in Chicago, Jordan Brand officially unveiled the 30th iteration of Jordan’s signature shoe. Designed by longtime Jordan line designer Tinker Hatfield, the kicks were inspired by the iconic photo of Michael Jordan frozen in the air in the midst of throwing down a dunk during the 1988 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.
That image became the building block for the triple-X design that graces the shoe’s heel, which mimics the look of a basketball net. The Jumpman logo sits atop the shoe’s toe, while the tongue features a basketball with certain parts highlighted to make it look like the cosmos. The triple-X logo appears again on the shoe’s outsole.
On the technology side, the Air Jordan XXX contains FlightSpeed cushioning, an evolution of the Flight Plate that debuted in the Air Jordan XXVIII. The shoe’s upper is made from a combination of woven, knit and printed materials, which not only keeps the heel in place as you move on the court, but is light and airy enough to give your foot the breathability it needs.
The Air Jordan XXX will debut on Feb. 12 for a retail price of $200. You will be sure to see it on the foot of Russell Westbrook or Kawhi Leonard, both premiere Jordan athletes, in the near future.
