Dressed in full Florida State Seminoles sweats and rocking an FSU hat, former Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston prowled the sidelines of his alma mater's opening game of the 2016 season. He was as into the game as if he were still on the team, cheering for big plays, giving pep talks and generally being full-on Jameis.
The problem? At halftime, FSU trailed Ole Miss 28-13. This wasn't the team that Winston and Seminole fans thought they'd see, much less a team deserving of their pre-season No. 4 ranking. So Winston let them know about it.
Inside the locker room at the half, Winston gave a stirring speech to the team he once quarterbacked, injecting them with some much needed confidence and bravado after they spent most of the first half shocked at what was happening to them.
"We some dogs, we ain't no puppies!" Winston urged in footage captured by Showtime. "Wide receivers, y'all cannot be stopped the whole game. And we got the best running back in the whole damn league!"
Winston's speech clearly resonated with the players, especially quarterback Deondre Francois, who used a torrid second half to throw for 481 yards and two touchdowns in his debut. Florida State blanked Ole Miss 23-0 in the third quarter en route to an epic 45-34 comeback win. Winston's speech may soon take its place in Florida State lore.
