James Franco and Bryan Cranston Headline Comedy ‘Why Him?’
James Franco and Bryan Cranston star as bitter rivals in the upcoming comedy Why Him?
The movie’s logline states, “Over the holidays, a Midwestern dad travels with his family to visit his daughter at college, and soon finds himself in a battle for her affections with her new, brash tech billionaire boyfriend.”
Last summer Franco expressed his enthusiasm about working on this project with the former Breaking Bad star, saying via Instagram that he “could not be more excited to work with my man, WALTER WHITE!!!!”
It’s not the first time Cranston and Franco have been co-stars. They recently completed filming a quite different picture, the drama In Dubious Battle, based on the novel by John Steinbeck.
It seems appropriate that Why Him? is being co-written and directed by John Hamburg, who wrote the similarly themed Meet the Parents, the quintessential comedy about a man feuding with his potential father-in-law. Hamburg’s collaborator on the screenplay was actor/filmmaker Ian Helfer (The Oranges).
The film is being produced by Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and Ben Stiller’s Red Hour, both of which are based at Fox.
Production on Why Him? is expected to begin in February. The movie is set to open in theaters on Nov. 11, 2016.
