Rap News Rundown: Joe Budden, Meek Mill, Gucci Mane, Kid Ink
Last week, Joe Budden was accused of attacking his former girlfriend, Meek Mill tried and failed to get early parole, Gucci Mane was sentenced in his federal case and Kid Ink got sued by a pizza delivery guy after his dog got a little carried away.
Joe Budden Accused of Assaulting Girlfriend, Denies Allegations
According to reports, Joe Budden flew into a jealous rage outside an NYC restaurant after he saw pictures of his ex-girlfriend with other men. He allegedly dragged her out of the eatery and into his car, where he choked her and slammed her head against the dashboard before driving to his New Jersey home, where he continued to assault her.
Budden responded to the allegations on Twitter, saying the reports “couldn’t be further from the truth,” and his attorney issued a statement to MTV News: “Mr. Budden looks forward to an opportunity to responsibly deal with and address the allegations against him so he may establish the actual facts of the night in question.”
Meek Mill Denied Parole
Meek Mill attempted to gain early parole last week at a hearing before the same judge who sentenced him to three to six months back in July, but his request got denied. Instead, the judge directed the Maybach Music rapper to complete anger management and parenting classes in addition to drug and alcohol treatment before she would entertain any requests for him to leave early.
The prosecutor maintained that Meek violated his parole several times by testing positive for narcotics, posing for pictures with guns and going out of town for concerts when he was ordered to remain in the state. His attorney plans to appeal the ruling to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. If he doesn’t receive parole, he’ll be released in mid-October.
Gucci Mane Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison
Gucci Mane won’t be released from jail any time soon. Last week, he was sentenced to 39 months in a federal penitentiary in connection with a September 2013 incident in which he was found in possession of a 40-caliber handgun. He pleaded guilty to the federal charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon back in May; without the plea, he could have faced up to 10 years.
After he serves the 39 months, Mane will serve three more years of supervised release with stiff travel limitations and a $5,000 fine. The travel restrictions will prevent him from leaving North Georgia for more than seven days per month without prior approval. His attorney has requested that he be allowed to serve his time in a West Coast substance abuse recovery program, and also asked that he be credited for the 11 months he has already served. It’s unclear whether either request has been approved.
Kid Ink Arrested in Las Vegas & Sued
Kid Ink has had quite the week. Last weekend, he was arrested outside Vegas nightclub 1Oak, where he was hosting a party. According to reports, the rapper was charged with disturbing the peace after he and a female friend were involved in a fight with the venue’s security. He doesn’t seem all that fazed by the incident, however. He later told Billboard, “It’s all good. I’m just looking forward to taking my tour overseas in the next few days.”
Later in the week, he was hit with a lawsuit by a pizza delivery guy who claims to have been attacked by Kid’s dog when he was delivering a pizza. The pooch reportedly bit him on his hands, legs, arms and face. He is asking for money for his medical bills in addition to pain and suffering and lost profits.
