Kate Mara to Star in Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Morgan’ From Ridley Scott and Son
Kate Mara (House of Cards) has signed on to star in the Ridley Scott-produced thriller Morgan, about a corporate risk management consultant called to a remote research lab to evaluate an artificial being, assess the risk and decide whether to terminate the creation.
This sci-fi movie marks the feature film directorial debut of the iconic filmmaker’s son Luke Scott, whose experience behind the camera includes the 2012 science fiction short The Loom and serving as second unit director on his father’s film Exodus: Gods and Kings.
Also possibly joining the cast is the enigmatic actress Anya Taylor-Joy, best known for the TV movie Viking Quest and the big screen horror flick The Witch. Taylor-Joy is in talks to star opposite Mara.
The project was developed at Scott Free Productions, where Luke Scott and writer Seth Owen worked on it with producers Michael Schaefer (Now You See Me) and Elishia Holmes (Child 44) before setting it up at Fox. Owen’s screenplay for the movie was on the 2014 Blacklist.
Morgan joins a growing list of A.I.-themed movies, including the highly anticipated Ex Machina, due out in April. Among the most prominent films in the genre are Ridley Scott’s Alien and Prometheus.
Over the next few years, Mara has roles lined up in several high-profile movies, including Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman in The Fantastic Four, premiering Aug. 7. She will also co-star with Matt Damon in the sci-fi flick The Martian.
