Rap News Rundown: Lil Twist, Lil Durk, Meek Mill and Drake
Last week: Lil Twist was accused of battery, Lil Durk and Meek Mill addressed beefs, and Drake released another song ahead of Nothing Was the Same.
Lil Twist Accused of Battery; Denies Allegations
Rapper Lil Twist has been accused of getting aggressive with a woman at Justin Bieber’s home late last week. According to the police report obtained by TMZ, the woman claims she was trying to leave Bieber’s home but was forcefully detained by Twist.
A rep for the entertainer released a statement to HotNewHipHop.com telling a completely different story: “Lil Twist was not involved in any battery. He asked the guest of a third party at the home to leave, and security escorted the guest from the premises after the guest became disruptive.”
Bieber was not at home at the time of the alleged incident.
Lil Durk Speaks on Rumored Feud With Chief Keef
During a recent interview with Chicago’s DJ MoonDawg, Lil Durk addressed his rumored feud with Chief Keef, which apparently spilled onto Twitter shortly after Durk’s release from jail last month. But the Coke Boys rapper insists that he hasn’t fired any shots at his former collaborator.
“Sneak dissing is talking behind each other’s backs. You know what I’m saying?” said Durk. “We had a couple of words, but that ain’t sneak dissing.”
He stopped short of denying there was any animosity. When pressed, he replied, “I’m doing me. That’s all I’ma say … I don’t be at Twitter looking at no tweets, man.”
The 20-year-old is now focusing on his forthcoming mixtape, Signed to the Streets.
Meek Mill Responds to Gillie Da Kid’s “King Me”
The battle for the “King of Philly” is in full swing. Last week, Gillie Da Kid’s “King Me” stirred up a lot of emotions as the rapper claimed rights to the crown. Though he denied the song was targeted at Mill, Gillie defended his right to be king by pointing out his longevity in the game and his ability to be relevant, despite never releasing an album or a hit record of his own.
Meek responded on Omelly’s “Panamera” by rapping, “Ballin’ off in Miami I got two of them rings, I’m super rich y’all still trippin’ on who the king…So, you can diss in your raps but when I run into you/ It’s going to be: ‘I didn’t say that’ or ‘I don’t want it with you.'”
Gillie Da Kid is currently working on his debut, Welcome to Gilladelphia, which is slated to land early next year with a few cuts from Mannie Fresh.
Drake Releases “All Me,” Featuring 2 Chainz & Big Sean
Drake has released another song in advance of his upcoming album. “All Me” features an introduction from comedian Aziz Ansari (“No more free Randy!”) and contributions from 2 Chainz and Big Sean.
The Canadian rapper dubs himself the “light-skin Keith Sweat” and brags about his current position at the top of the rap game on the track, which features a beat from Key Wane. 2 Chainz is his usual nonsensical self, and Big Sean attempts to switch things up, with mixed results. Overall, it’s a bit of a re-tread of his recent offerings, but the track offers just enough that it will probably be a hit.
Nothing Was the Same will be released Sept. 17.
