TRAILERS: ‘Madden NFL 15’ Showcases New Mode, Better Defense
EA Sports has released more clips for the upcoming Madden NFL 15. The first short trailer highlights one of the title’s new features—The Gauntlet mode; the other focuses on improved defensive controls.
The Gauntlet mode, part of the upgraded Skills Trainer, has 40 levels of challenges, where players get to engage various parts of the game to test their overall skills. For example, one of the tasks is to kick a 110-yard field goal in 200-plus mph winds.
“The Gauntlet is a throwback to old-school video game challenges, and we think some of our veteran players will have a lot of fun trying to beat each other’s scores,” assistant producer Danny Doeberling told Examiner.
In Madden 15, Skills Trainer will be linked with Connected Franchise to allow gamers to earn Ultimate Team rewards and boost a player’s attributes based on the outcome of the mode’s weekly Game Prep. Skills Trainer continues to be a tutorial for Madden newcomers.
In an interview with Bleacher Report, Doeberling revealed a second reason to play the mode. “Inside the mode we break down the major defense concepts,” he said. “We explain what it is, how to recognize it, and how to attack it. We also cover 12 basic pass concepts to help the user have a better understanding of why to call certain plays. We feel that by increasing a person’s football IQ, it will help even the playing field against someone who excels with stick skills.”
The new focus on defense also includes a new defensive camera angle, activated by pressing left on the D-pad. Gamers can gain an edge over the opposing team’s offensive linemen by timing their jump off the line, and they’ll have the tools to pass by blockers and set up pass rush moves.
Madden NFL 15 will be released Aug. 26.
