Rumor: Mark Wahlberg Could Be the ‘The Six Million Dollar Man’
According to rumors, Universal is going after Mark Wahlberg to star in the reboot of The Six Million Dollar Man.
The studio has been attempting to remake the popular 1970s television show and turn it into box office gold for several years now, but the journey hasn’t been easy. Jim Carrey and Leonardo DiCaprio were both attached to the project at some point, along with directors Todd Phillips and Bryan Singer.
Tracking Board reports that Universal is also in talks with Peter Berg to produce and perhaps direct the film. If it comes to fruition, it will be the second major film Berg and Wahlberg have worked together. They most recently collaborated on 2013’s drama, Lone Survivor.
Coming off a big box office win with Michael Bay’s latest Transformers installment, Age of Extinction, Wahlberg is also expected to appear in the Entourage movie and the sequel to 2012’s comedy hit Ted. It’s easy to understand why Universal wants him to star in the flick, but it’s unclear whether his crowded filming schedule will allow it. Berg is currently working as executive producer of HBO’s The Leftovers, and he was involved in Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules, to be released later this year.
The Six Million Dollar Man is about Steve Austin, an astronaut who suffers serious injuries following a crash and is made whole again in a costly operation that outfits him with bionics in both legs, his right arm and his left eye. The upgrades give him special abilities, including superior vision and supernatural strength, which he uses as a secret agent for the Office of Scientific Intelligence.
