Matt Reeves, who recently directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes for Fox, is set to direct a yet-to-be-titled bank heist thriller for the studio.

The screenplay will be based on an original pitch from another highly in-demand filmmaker, screenwriter Matt Charman, who wrote a much anticipated Steven Spielberg Cold War thriller, currently in the works. The idea, which Charman and collaborator Matthew Plouffe came up with several years ago, is being compared to The Heat and the classic Al Pacino drama Dog Day Afternoon.

Reeves is also set to produce the picture along with actor Tobey Maguire and Plouffe, who runs Maguire’s production company.

A few months ago, Fox announced that it had signed Reeves to a three-year contract. The studio said their deal was in the works before the release of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which grossed an astounding $370 million worldwide in its first three weeks.

Last summer, Fox production president Emma Watts commented on the deal with Reeves, saying: “We are thrilled Matt has decided to make Fox his home. We have long admired his bold, intelligent approach to filmmaking. I know our collaboration on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is just the beginning of many great things to come.”

Reeves’s next film is the sequel to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, slated for release July 29, 2016. He is expected to begin work on the bank heist movie following completion of that project.
