Nike Officially Unveils the LeBron XII
It’s been a busy year for LeBron James, to say the least. First, the Nike LeBron XI had issues, and James ended up ditching them in favor of the Nike LeBron Zoom Soldier VII. Then, his back-to-back champion Miami Heat were rudely eliminated from the NBA Finals in five games. Finally, as you may have heard, he became a free agent and shocked the world by announcing he would return to Cleveland to finish his career. The icing on the cake was Nike’s unveiling of the LeBron XII today at Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.
The 12th iteration of LeBron’s signature line features, for the first time, a hexagonal Nike Zoom pattern on the sole. Each pod works individually, reacting to the court separately to provide maximum comfort. Flywire is back, and the upper now features a brand new technology called Megafuse, an evolution of Hyperfuse, a thin layer designed to make the XII as light as possible.
“As I get older, I don’t want my shoe to be a burden,” James said. “I want it be lighter. [Nike] takes that, and they respond to that very well. The way I move, jump and cut, and me being the size that I am and as fast as I am, it has to be very durable.”
The first colorway of the LeBron XII, entitled “NSRL” drops globally on Oct. 11. Six more colorways will follow later in 2014.
