Oscar winner Russell Crowe takes on the iconic title role in the apocalyptic drama, Noah, based on one of the most famous events in the Bible, the flood that covered the Earth. God chooses Noah for his epic task on the eve of the catastrophic flood that sweeps away all life on earth except for the creatures that survive on Noah’s legendary ark.

In the role of Noah’s wife Naameh is Jennifer Connelly, who also played Crowe’s spouse in 2002’s A Beautiful Mind. Emma Watson plays Ila. Anthony Hopkins plays Methuselah.

The film is directed by Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky, who also wrote the screenplay with collaborator Ari Handel. The two previously teamed up on the 2006 drama, The Fountain.

As the trailer shows, Noah has the same powerful, larger than life elements and awe inspiring special effects as classic Biblical epics.

One thing that stands out about the project is the fact that the era is ambiguous. Emma Watson was quoted by Vyralize as saying, “It could be set in any time. It could be set sort of like a thousand years in the future or a thousand years in the past.”

Noah hits theaters March 28, 2014.
