One Shoe, Three Flights: Air Jordan 2012 "Fly Around"
Jordan Brand’s objective in the Air Jordan 2012 was to create three different shoe configurations based on styles of play—quickness, air and explosiveness—so players can lace up to enhance their individual strengths. If you’re a perimeter player, or someone whose main competitive advantage is quickness, your shoe might be the “fly around” option, inspired by brand ambassador and Clippers point guard Chris Paul.
The green “fly around” midsole has a Nike Zoom unit in the heel, which generates quick responses from each step. With lightweight cushioning and more lockdown, the Zoom heel adds “oomph” to your crossovers, cuts and drives, facilitating smoother transitions and helping you make plays off the dribble.
Check out the interview above for insights from Air Jordan 2012 designers Tinker Hatfield and Tom Luedecke.
The Air Jordan 2012 hits stores on Saturday, Feb. 25. The basic edition includes one inner sleeve and one midsole for $180 and is customizable at retail. The Deluxe Edition—with the full flight system (two inner sleeves and three midsoles)—is available in two colorways, now retailing in stores and online for $223. The Air Jordan 2012 is also available on Nike iD ($205).
