The latest update (1.07) for PlayStation 4 was released last weekend. Much of it focuses on video capture and streaming.

Owners will get the free video editing app SHAREFactory with the download, allowing them to add special effects, commentary and music to their gameplay videos and making it easier for them to transfer their clips to an external USB drive and upload them to social media sites.

The update also includes an option to disable HDCP for games and increase the resolution of live broadcasts to 720p HD. By disabling HDCP, gamers will be able to capture longer gameplay clips via their HDMI outputs.

An automatic pre-download feature is included in the update. Gamers will be able to download certain pre-ordered games ahead of their release date, so when launch day arrives, the game will be ready to play. A countdown timer will help players keep track of when they can fully access the game. GameSpot reports that Sony will use this feature in the forthcoming game, Watch Dogs.

A few smaller features of the update: the ability to control the brightness of the DualShock 4's light bar; the ability to use touchpad to navigate the on-screen keyboard; and the added option to sort your trophies by rarity. For a complete list, visit the official PlayStation blog.

PlayStation Vita and the PS App also received updates. Downloading 3.15 for Vita will make it easier for gamers to link their PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, and will automatically register the device, which will aid in detecting and pairing the systems. The 1.70 update for the PS App gives users the option to receive push notifications for gameplay invites and friend requests, and makes it easier for users to update their profile picture.
