Celebrity Prank Film Series from ‘Punk’d’ Co-Creator in the Works
A celebrity prank movie is currently in the works from Ashton Kutcher’s Punk’d co-creator Jason Goldberg. For this untitled project, with a budget of just $5 million, Goldberg will partner up with the upstart studio, STX Entertainment. Although no specific celebrities have been mentioned yet, it has been revealed that the first movie, consisting of nine or 10 segments, will feature a a broad range of notables, from dramatic actors to comedians to music and sports figures.
If this turns into a movie franchise as filmmakers hope, STX and Warner Bros., which is distributing the picture internationally, will be following in the footsteps of Paramount, which turned the MTV series Jackass into a low-budget feature film franchise that became a big moneymaker for the studio.
The MTV series Punk’d ran from 2003 to 2007 and was revived in 2012. A hidden camera had Kutcher pranking top celebrities like Justin Timberlake, Jessica Alba, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna.
Appropriately, the movie is expected to hit theaters around April Fool’s Day, but an official release date has not yet been set.
