Anthony Mackie Stars in ‘Repentance’
In the psychological thriller Repentance, Thomas Carter (Anthony Mackie) is a man with a dark past who manages to turn things around after nearly losing his life in a car crash. Now a therapist/spiritual adviser, he has written a successful self-help book.
Angel Sanchez (Forest Whitaker) is a distressed man who is unable to get over the untimely death of his mother. Without realizing what he’s getting himself into, Carter agrees to take on Sanchez as a patient/client for $300 an hour. It turns out the deeply disturbed Sanchez needs much more help than a life coach can provide.
The thrilling plot twists and turns as the maniacal Sanchez uses Carter’s own teachings against him. He punishes the therapist and his family for their past wrongdoings by kidnapping Carter, injuring him and forcing him to reveal secrets from his past in exchange for pain medication.
The cast of the film also includes Mike Epps, fresh from The Hangover Part III, Nicole Ari Parker (Revolution), Brett Baker (Identity Thief) and Sanaa Lathan (The Best Man Holiday).
The director is Philippe Caland, best known for writing, directing and producing the 2007 drama, Ripple Effect. The screenplay, by Shintaro Shimosawa (Criminal Minds), was based on Caland’s film script for The Gypsy and the Gury.
Repentance will premiere in limited release Feb. 28, 2014.
