The futuristic sci-fi thriller RoboCop follows the story of Alex Murphy, played by Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), a police officer who is nearly killed in an explosion. A multinational conglomerate, OmniCorp, uses its advanced technology to save Murphy’s life after he is critically injured in the line of duty. A global leader in robot technology, OmniCorp seizes the opportunity to create a part human-part robot policeman equipped to fight corruption on the streets of Detroit.
The impressive cast includes Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) as Dr. Dennett Norton, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson and Australian actress Abby Cornish.
This remake of the 1987 cult classic was directed by José Padilha, most recently known for the action drama Elite Squad: The Enemy Within. The screenplay was written by a team that includes Nick Schenk (Gran Torino), David Self (The Wolfman) and Joshua Zetumer, along with James Vanderbilt, who wrote the screenplay for last year’s The Amazing Spider-Man.
RoboCop will premiere in 2D theaters and IMAX on Feb. 12, 2014.
