Boris Diaw is a man of many talents. The 34-year-old San Antonio Spurs forward has produced a short film, traveled to more countries than most of us will see in a lifetime, and played a key role in the Spurs' multiple NBA Finals appearances (and 2014 championship.)
We can now add another notch to the stretch forward's already impressive belt: octopus connoisseur.
A major talking point during his career has been Diaw's weight, because it seems to fluctuate every other year. Though he's kept himself in fairly decent shape lately, it's still a joy to hear stories about his incredible eating habits, including this one from his good friend and teammate on the French national team, Ronny Turiaf.
While the two were vacationing with a group of friends in Peru over the off-season, they sat down at a restaurant for a bite. According to Turiaf, the waiter sat down a plate containing an enormous cooked octopus.
Then things got a little weird.
"One day we were eating at this beautiful restaurant on a little cliff, and this guy brings out this crazy huge octopus that's cooked, and everybody was surprised, like, 'Man, I'm not going to touch this,'" Turiaf told the NBPA. "And then Boris said, 'You guys are not going to eat it? Alright, cool.' He grabbed the plate and he ate the whole octopus, and he loves octopus. And I'm, like, 'Boris, you are insane.'"
If you've ever ordered octopus in a restaurant, you were probably served small pieces of the tentacles. But a tiny portion like that could never satisfy the legend that is Boris Diaw. No, my man needs an entire octopus. Anything less is unacceptable.
Just when you think the legend of Boris Diaw can't swell up any larger, a story like this comes out. We hope he includes it in his retirement speech, with photos.
