Last week, Sean Smith of the York Revolution in the independent Atlantic League hit a game-tying home run in the eighth inning of a division playoff game.
Somewhere on his way to first base, Smith is visibly hurt. In a display of true grit and determination, he refuses the pinch runner and rounds the rest of the bases and scores.
“It gave me chills,” said Smith’s teammate Justin Greene. “It definitely gave us a kickstart.”
The Revolution went on to win the game 3-2, and Smith’s effort clearly was the spark.
“That was one of the most emotional things I have ever seen in a game,” manager Mark Mason said. “That was a clutch home run. That gave us an emotional lift to stay in there and keep battling.”
