‘Soul Calibur II HD Online’ Gets a Release Date
Fans of Namco’s weapon-based fighting game series Soul Calibur will get the chance to revisit an old favorite and challenge online gamers across the world. Soul Calibur II HD Online updates the beloved Soul Calibur II, which was originally released for Playstation 2, Xbox and GameCube.
[youtube video=”76NxqWjf7Dc” /]In addition to the original blade-wielding cast of characters, the new game features comic book character Spawn and Tekken‘s Heihachi, who were exclusive to the Xbox and PS2 versions, respectively. GameCube exclusive Link, from Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda series, is unfortunately not included, unless a Wii U version is released, which Namco says is still a possibility.
The popular fighting game originated in 1995 as the arcade game Soul Edge and was ported to the original Playstation. The sequel, Soul Calibur, was a highlight of the Sega DreamCast console. Four more Soul Calibur fighters and a few spinoff games have been released since then, with guest characters including favorites such as Darth Vader and God of War’s Kratos.
Namco hasn’t revealed a release date for Soul Calibur 6, but the free-to-play Soul Calibur: Lost Swords is slated for release sometime this winter. It will be a single-player game, with no current plans for a multiplayer or online mode.
Soul Calibur II HD Online will hit the Playstation Network store Nov. 19 and the Xbox Live Arcade Nov. 20 for $19.99.
