Watch the New ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ Teaser Trailer
A teaser trailer was recently released for Star Wars: Rogue One, the first standalone film announced as part of the new Star Wars Anthology series. But considering the film is not in production and won’t come out until the end of 2016, it’s not so much a teaser as a sizzle reel. Check it out below!
The film will take place after Revenge of the Sith but before the events of 1977’s A New Hope and will center around a group of rebel soldiers who come together to steal the plans for the Death Star. Obi-Wan Kenobi sets the stage in the clip’s voiceover, intoning, “For more than a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times. Before the Empire.”
Director Gareth Edwards, who also helmed last year’s Godzilla reboot, talked about the film during the final day of the Star Wars Celebration fan festival in Anaheim. He emphasized that although it would indeed be a war film, it wouldn’t be easy to differentiate the good guys from the bad guys. “It’s about the fact that God’s not coming to save us, and we’re on our own,” Edwards said. “The absence of the Jedi is omnipresent in the film. It hangs over the whole movie.”
Star Wars: Rogue One will be released Dec. 16, 2016. So far, the only confirmed star is Felicity Jones, who will play a rebel soldier.
