Watch the Second Trailer for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’
A new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has landed online. The debut teaser focused on new characters played by John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Issac. The new two-minute clip features a few familiar faces. Check it out below.
Nostalgia kicks in from the start with an excerpt from Return of the Jedi of Luke Skywalker’s conversation with Leia about Darth Vader being his father. “The force is strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. My sister has it,” says Luke (Mark Hamill) in the voiceover. Only this time, he adds, “And you have the power, too.” However, it’s unclear to whom he’s talking.
There is also a quick glimpse of Darth Vader’s charred helmet. At the end, we’re treated to the return of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew). “Chewie, we’re home!” exclaims Han.
During a panel at the Star Wars Celebration expo in Anaheim late last week, production designer Rick Carter compared the film to past features from the franchise with George Lucas at the helm, saying, “This is a period piece—a long time ago, far, far away. It’s very close to the heart. The entire movie experience, both in the content in what you’re seeing and really in this trailer, recognizes this is a transference of generations. You see it with the lightsaber. You see who the new generation is. You have a glimpse of the older generation.”
At the same expo, production team member Christian Alzmann said that special effects would not be the star of the film. Instead, the emphasis is on telling a great story. He said, “I think just ratcheting it down and making it more about characters and more about the story of the people and not about million man armies.”
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will premiere Dec. 18.
