The Indianapolis Colts Just Signed a Gigantic, Ultra-Athletic College Basketball Player to Be Their New Tight End
The Indianapolis Colts are hoping they just signed the next Antonio Gates.
The team reportedly reached an agreement Mo Alie-Cox, 6-foot-6, 262-pound former VCU power forward who just wrapped up his senior season, when he averaged 9.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game.
Back in 2015, Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten met Alie-Cox at a VCU game. He noticed his massive frame, chiseled physique and humongous hands and told him that he could have a future in the NFL. “He told me I could make the transition to football,” Alie-Cox told USA Today. “He said if it’s something I wanted to do, I should look into it.”
Obviously, Witten knew what he was talking about. Alie-Cox reportedly recorded a 10-foot-2 Broad Jump and a 4.75 40-Yard Dash at a recent open workout he held for NFL teams. Check out this footage:

If things fall into place for him, he can become an absolutely terrifying tight end. According to his VCU basketball bio, he has a wingspan of 7-foot-1, which is 2 full inches longer than that of Houston Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. Alie-Cox also has massive mitts. At his open workout, his hand size was measured at 11 and 3/4 inches, a full inch larger than Rob Gronkowski’s.
There’s no doubt Alie-Cox has the tools to be a matchup nightmare in the NFL, but he’ll need to develop his technique and football IQ if he wants to contribute. In the meantime, take a look at his impressive college hoops highlight tape:
